"Making It In Music" by Hugh Hession

Below is an article from a writer who knows about the radio/music business.  At the start of this blog, Hugh forwarded great radio information to help fans understand the radio business.

Hey - Here is how you get permission to record your favorite cover song!Sent Tuesday, August 27, 2013View as plaintext
Hi ,
Do you have that special cover song that you love to sing or play? Most of us do. It's in that perfect range to sing and it's almost like you've made it your own...that signature song that your fans can't get enough of. Hey...ever think of recording it?
Wait...can I legally do that, you ask?
I get approached by alot of music artists who wonder how to go about getting permission to record a cover song. The typical questions I get are as follows:

  • But don't I have to pay thousands of dollars? Nope...not all.
  • This artist I want to cover is a huge star. They're not going to give me permission. Wrong again! They will, because they HAVE to!
  • Who would I even contact to get permission? We'll show ya!

I've gone out of my way to compile a tremendous Slideshare presentation on this very topic. It's EASY to follow and will outline what you have to do in 4 SIMPLE STEPS! It was actually featured on Slideshare's front page!
Here it is:
Making it in Music's Step by Step Guide on How To Get Permission to Record a Cover Song
But wait. We have more! Here is yet another Slideshare presentation on the difference between the composition or the song copyright (PA) and the sound recording copyright (SR).  We take the confusion out of it, in an easy to understand format!
Making it in Music's Understanding the Difference Between a Sound Recording (SR) and a Composition (PA)
Both Slideshare presentations are downloadable and FREE! While you're at it, you may want to follow me to keep up with more presentations!
Thanks for being a loyal email subscriber. I appreciate hearing from you. Let me know if you have any questions.
Wishing you wild success in music!
