JAMES Cosmo is the film star who had never been kissed…until he met Susan Boyle.
The rugged actor, instantly recognisable from any number of tough-guy roles on film and TV, stars with the singer in forthcoming movie The Christmas Candle.
He plays a church warden in the film while SuBo plays his wife, Eleanor Hopewell, and they have a moment which, if not quite a smacker, is certainly a start for the veteran star.
James, who was born in Clydebank, said: “Snog SuBo? This is a vicious rumour that’s going round. In my career, I’m known as the man who never snogged anyone. I don’t know why that is.
“We have a very chaste kiss on the cheek but I used to give her lots of cuddles on set. I play her husband and we had a terrific time. She is a very sweet lady.”
The film, which also stars Les Miserables actress Samantha Barks, Lesley Manville, Hans Matheson, Sylvester McCoy and John Hannah, sees the Britain’s Got Talent legend perform a hymn in the village church.
Hearing her sing was a special moment for James. He said: “It was unbelievable, so beautiful. Like everyone else, the hairs on the back of your neck go up.
“Where did that voice come from? Extraordinary, wonderful.
“I haven’t seen the finished version yet but they are showing the director’s cut at the moment to companies and distributors and they seem to really love it so I’m hoping it will do well.
“I think it will be a goodie. It’s a Christmas movie, a feel-good film and it is about hope. I think we can always do with a few of those.”
