Susan Boyle Kicks Off First US Tour Tonight in San Diego

AEG Live/Columbia RecordsSusan Boyle has sold millions of albums worldwide in the six years since she took the world by storm with her performance on Britain's Got Talent, but she's never toured the U.S. -- until now.  Susan kicks off her first-ever American tour Wednesday night in San Diego and tells ABC News Radio, "I'm ready."
"Six years ago the time wasn't right for me to because I wasn't ready," the Scottish star tells ABC News Radio. "I think that the time has come for me to do more. I'm more accomplished, I've got albums behind me. I'm more experienced and I'm ready and I can't wait!"
Susan, who'll release a new album, Hope, on October 21, says that her tour is a "thank you to the people who have supported me over the years," adding, "America's really embraced me because they accept me for who I am."
Susan has, of course, performed live many times -- she just hasn't done a full-fledged U.S. tour.  Describing her concerts, Susan says fans "hear some songs that they know, some songs that they don't know, they get a lot of surprises, some laughs. They have a good night."  But don't expect any bells and whistles, special effects and dancers: Susan keeps things simple.
"The whole set is just the band and the piano, backing vocalists and myself," she says. "You couldn't really ask for anything else. It's set up very well and the direction is very good."
Susan says she's looking forward to the tour because she'd like to visit more of America than just the small part she's seen.  For example, she's never been to San Diego, where the tour is kicking off. "I've been to Chicago. I've been to New York and I've been to L.A.," she tells ABC News Radio. "I like L.A. because of the sunshine!"
Above all, though, Susan says it's the thrill of performing live that's really making her anticipate this tour, which will wrap up November 6 in Florida.
"There's nothing like the immediate feedback," she says of being onstage. "It's electric, sometimes. It's very exciting and it's a bit like a drug: it's addictive. You want more of it, and that's why I want to tour for as long as I can."
